To evaluate the contest works, the management of the I Baiqonyr Republican Short Film Festival presented a Jury of 8 people. The Jury consisted of well-known and distinguished figures of cinema, contributing to the development of domestic cinema. This eightsome will determine the best films and decide who will become the owner of the cherished Baiqonyr statuette.
Rashid Nugmanov - Chairman of the Jury, director and scriptwriter
One of the prominent representatives of the “Kazakh new wave”, the creator of the cult film “The Needle” (“Игла”), director of Eurasia International Film Festival, the president of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Kazakhstan. The keen directing look and many years of experience of Rashid Musaevich will help to discover new names of young talents.
Gulnara Abikeyeva - a well-known film critic and film expert in Central Asia
Gulnara Abikeyeva has given lectures on film art at leading universities in the world: Pittsburgh, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Tufts University. She was awarded the “Elephant” award by the Guild of film experts and critics of Russia for the author's book “Cinema of Central Asia”. Today Gulnara Oiratovna heads the Association of film critics of Kazakhstan, thereby contributing to the development of Kazakh film process.
Sabina Kuzenbayeva - Film distributor
Sabina Kuzbayeva is a craft professional. She graduated from the New York Film Academy with a degree in Film and TV Producer. In 2009 she became the Director General of the Chaplin Cinemas Cinema Network. In 2015 Sabina Kuzbayeva left the position of Director and started the production work.
Ilyas Ahmet - Eurasia Spotlight Business Platform Director
He has valuable work experience as the head of Film Projects Development Center for the Development and as the Managing Director for Kazakhfilm Film Studio Development. Since 2011, he has been the Director of the Eurasia Spotlight business programme. The potential of the festival participants will be appreciated at its true value by the professional opinion of film projects’ head.
