The II Baiqonyr Republican Short Film Festival, held with the support of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy, continues to open new names in the domestic cinema. The second film festival is significant in that the categories “Production designer” and “Special Jury Prize” were added to the list of nominations.
This year, 35 films took part in the competition programme of the festival, and 3 films took part in the non-competition programme. The jury, chaired by Akhat Ibrayev, included prominent figures of cinema in Kazakhstan. The festival was opened by the non-competition work of Director Meirzhan Sandybay “The dog”, a touching picture about human indifference and cruel realities of the modern world.
