Baiqonyr SFF-2018: Almaty hosted the opening of the film festival
The opening of the third Baiqonyr Short Film Festival was held in Almaty at the Kinoplexx Sary Arka Cinema. The event was attended by film director Rashid Nugmanov, producer Nurtas Adambay, actresses Aruzhan Dzhazilbekova, Dinara Baktybaeva, Bibigul Aktan (Suyunshalina), actors Dasten Shakirov, Olzhas Togymbet and other representatives of domestic cinema.

The general sponsor of the film festival is the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy, the main partners are Kinopark Theaters and Kinoplexx Cinemas. The initiator of the screening is the Broadway movie portal.
Baiqonyr SFF was opened with the film “The end of the Season” by Zhannat Alshanova. The film took part in the short film programme Cinefondation of the 71st Cannes Film Festival.

As part of the opening, a special screening was held for the 30th anniversary of the film “July” by Darezhan Omirbayev.
“Many people consider short films not a serious matter. In fact, the format of a short film is always an attempt to make art, to make something sincere, since it cannot be a rental or commercial format. As Tarkovsky said, any Director is revealed from the first frames. If the Director has his own handwriting and his own movie language, they are always visible from the first minutes. And then he uses them all his life, changing only the content in his films. So watch and shoot short films. They are the beginning of cinema,” Director and film expert Darezhan Omirbayev shared his opinion.

The competition programme Baiqonyr SFF involves 47 live-action films, documentaries and animated films shot by Kazakhstani directors. FIPRESCI and NETPAC member Gulbara Tolomushova, actress Aruzhan Dzhazilbekova, producer and actress Bayan Alaguzova, director and scriptwriter Adai Abeldinov, producer and director Nurtas Adambay, director Baimurat Zhumanov, director Katerina Suvorova and sound designer Denis Konoplev will evaluate the works.

It is worth noting that the festival will also include evenings of Kyrgyz and Uzbek short films and master classes.
Let us recall that the film festival will last until September 23. The event takes place in Kinoplexx Sary Arka (Altynsarin st, 24A).
