Baiqonyr SFF-2018: winners of the third festival are determined
Almaty hosted the third festival of short films Baiqonyr Short Film Festival. The screening started on September 20 and was supported by the General sponsor-the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy and the main partners-Kinopark Theaters and Kinoplexx Cinema.
47 short films made by Kazakhstani Directors took part in the competition programme of the festival. In the live-action film section, 27 works were presented, 9 documentaries and 11 animated films.
The winners in 13 categories were chosen by producer, Director and actor Nurtas Adambay, producer and actress Bayan Alaguzova, Director and screenwriter Adai Abeldinov, actress Aruzhan Dzhazilbekova, documentary film Director Katerina Suvorova, sound designer Denis Konoplev and Grand Prix winner of the II Baiqonyr Short Film Festival Baimurat Zhumanov.
The Grand Prix of the screening was awarded to the film “Goodbye, my friend” directed by Timur Serdalin. The film also won in “Best Director” and “Best script” nominations (Dzhanibek Murtazin).

Bakhtiar Islamov's work in the “Uzbek elegy” film was awarded in the “Best camera operator” nomination.
Azat Zhumadil was recognized as the Best actor for his role in the film “Asan”.
The prize as “Best actress” was taken by Zhanel Alikova for playing in the drama “Samal”.
Ivan Ardashov's work “Orkesh” was recognized as the Best animated film. The cartoon was also awarded in the category “Best production designer”.

The winner of the prize for “Best sound” was the film “Champion” (Maria Valuyskaya, Yulia Reiman, Seit Tasbulatov).
Best documentary film named “One day of the butcher” by Nursultan Nuskabekov.
In the category “Best experimental film” won the film “I love to watch children die” by Alibek Abdukhalik.
“Special jury prize” was awarded to the film “The End of Winter”by Amir Amenov.
The “Broadway Choice” award went to the film “Wild days” by Samgar Rakhim.

“According to the number of applications and participants, we can talk about the great potential of short films in Kazakhstan. There are many universities in Almaty and Astana that train cinematographers, both public and private. Therefore, the results of their work need to be looked at, analyzed and discussed somewhere. I am glad that the Baiqonyr Short Film Festival allows you to do this. I want to tell you some good news for the festival participants. Several films of the third film festival will participate in the forum of young cinema of the CIS countries “Umut”, - said the Chairman of the jury, a member of FIPRESCI and NETPAC Gulbara Tolomushova.

The solemn closing ceremony was held at the Kinoplexx Sary Arka cinema. The winners of the film festival were awarded statuettes and commemorative diplomas.
Let us recall that the Baiqonyr Short Film Festival has been held since 2016 in Almaty. The contest is organized by the Broadway movie portal.
