Almaty hosted the press conference of the III Baiqonyr Short Film Festival
A press conference dedicated to the III Baiqonyr Short Film Festival was held in Almaty in the assembly hall of Turan University.
The Republican Film Festival will be held from September 20 to 23 at the Kinoplexx Sary Arka cinema.
The General sponsor of the Baiqonyr Short Film Festival is the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbasy, the main partners of the project are Kinopark Theaters and Kinoplexx Cinemas.
The festival Director Anuar Kenzhibayev, senior project coordinator of the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Timur Ismailov, as well as members of the selection Committee Yerzhan Zhumabekov and Karim kadyrbayev answered journalists ' questions about the upcoming contest.
Applications for participation in the festival ended on August 31, 2018. Applications for participation were submitted not only from Kazakhstan, but also from Georgia, the USA, Latin America, Russia and Lebanon. Nevertheless, 47 films made by compatriots were included in the competition programme out of 195 applications. The short film “The end of the season” by Zhannat Alshanova, who participated in the Cinefondation competition of the 71st Cannes film festival, will open the film screening.
“To date, the Baikonyr Short Film Festival is the only festival on the territory of Kazakhstan that includes three sections in the programme: live-action, documentary and animated films. The main contestincluded 27 live-action films, 11 animated films and 9 documentaries. This list includes works made by students and graduates of Turan University, Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after Temirbek Zhurgenov, the new York film Academy, the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after Sergei Gerasimov, the National film school “Stalker”, as well as films created by “Debut” Creative and Production Association at Kazakhfilm.”- said Yerzhan Zhumabekov.

The participants of the competition programme will be evaluated by the actor, director and producer Nurtas Adambay, actress Aruzhan Dzhazilbekova, producer, actress Bayan Alaguzova, Chairman of the Council of Young Filmmakers of Uzbekistan, producer Oybek Abdushukurov, sound designer Denis Konoplev, director, winner II Baiqonyr Short Film Festival Baimurat Zhumanov, “Animated Cinema” Creative and Production Association at Kazakhfilm Adai Abeldinov, documentary director Katerina Suvorova, production designer Yana Tyulkina.
Gulbara Tolomushova, member of the Union of Filmmakers of Kyrgyzstan, a film critic, film critic, member of FIPRESCI and NETPAC, a member of the Union of Filmmakers of Kyrgyzstan, was invited as chairman of the jury.
“The third festival is full of pleasant surprises. Firstly, we will have open evenings of Kyrgyz and Uzbek cinema. We will present to our viewers and participants the best short films of these countries. Secondly, the chances of becoming a prize winner of the film screening are increased. We have included a new nomination for “Best Sound”. Thirdly, interesting master classes will be held as part of the festival. Also, on the opening day, a red carpet will take place with the participation of eminent filmmakers of the country,” said Anuar Kenzhibayev.

For the second year in a row, the general producer of the film screening is the Foundation of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy.
“One of the foundation’s priority areas is support for talented, creative, and scientific youth. The festival on its site brings together dozens of young directors, gives them a start for professional growth, and most importantly opens up new names. Therefore, it was decided to support this project again,” added Timur Ismailov, Senior Project Coordinator of the Foundationof the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy.

Let us recall that the Baiqonyr Short Film Festival is held by the Broadway movie portal since 2016. This year, the winners will be determined on September 23 and awarded a commemorative diploma and an exclusive statuette made of brass and gold.
